Intro

The hf campaign ran 31oct16 thru 07nov16. it used the 5 Mhz and 8 MHz system. The 430 Mhz transmitter was used as a diagnostic (in single and dual beam modes).

AO recorded ion line, plasma line using:

radar interface recorded standard ion line
echotek recorded 2 5MHz bands centered at different positions ([-5.5,5.5], [-4.5,4.5], [5.5,9.5])
the usrp was used to record 25 Mhz bands
the lidar lab and optical lab also recorded data during the run

Transmitted HF power: (top)

The transmitted power was measured for each hf transmitter. The setup was:

rf output coupler from each tx goes to rf multiplexor (hanging in front of blue cabinet in hf ctrl room)
output of multiplexor to anritsu spectrum analyzer.
anritsu setup:

0.. 20 Mhz, rbw 300 khz,
minhold, maxhold, avg 6 seconds

the anacom program controls the anritsu and the hfswitch

6 secs each tx, then move to next..
data stored in /share/phildat/hf/yymmdd

Plots were made for each experiment session (see table above).

Top frame: The power from all 6 tx were summed.

the 3 colors are sums of: maxhold, minhold, and average.

Bottom frame: The power from each of the 6 tx plotted (by color).

If the experiment toggled the tx power on/off during a 6 second integration:

the average value will include the offs
In this case look at the peak hold value. it will be closer to the actual transmitted power.

A single plot was also made of the tx power for the entire campaign (.ps) (.pdf)

black trace: average power for the 6 seconds
red trace: peak hold value for the 6 seconds
green trace: min hold value fo the 6 seconds.

The hf synthesizers generate the amplitude an phase to drive each of the 6 hf transmitters.

Binary files (top)

Binary files are made (upon request) of the hf transmitter power as well as the az,za positions during an experiment.

data comes from the spectrum analyzer monitoring of the transmitted power (see hf tx power )

the what we did table has a plot of the tx power for each experiment session.

For an individual experimenter i put all of there data in 1 binary file
All binary files are little endian, 8 byte doubles.

The spectrum analzyer spends 6 seconds measuring the average and peak_hold power from an hf transmitter.
It then moves on to the next Hf transmitter. With overhead it takes about 60 seconds to measure all 6 transmitters.
The avgPower, peakPower (in the binary file) are the sum of that 6 transmitters (so it is the total transmitted power).
an easy way to read the file is
get the file size in bytes
nrecs=filesize/24
generate double array (3,nrecs) (or nrecs,3 if you are in python?.. whatever. in memory the 1st 3 doubles are secs1970,avgPwr,pkPwr.
read double array. (my example below is for idl (column major)..

array[0,i]=secs1970
array[1,i]=average Power KW
array[2,i]=peak power KW (use this when doing autotoggle since the average may include hf tx off.)

hhmmss2 is the AST ending hour,min,sec for the data

Data comes from the 1 second monitoring of the telescope position (logged to disc).

I put each experiment in a separate file (since the files were bigger).

timestamps:

31oct16 till 20:37 the echotek data had no timestamps or az,za in the header.
network switch for daeron was not passing the scramnet broadcast packets through to daeron,
I used the datafile last written time stamps to compute the start of each ipp. Since only 10ms ipp, probably accurate to a few secs.
I then added az,za by looking up telescope logs using the computed time stamp.

i didn't try removing the arcing from the movies (in the time domain).. maybe something for when i have some free time :)....
