Intro

    Leica brought a p50 laser scan to AO on 11mar20. We mounted the scanner at AO9 and scanned the dish from 9:30am to 12:15pm.

Setup

• The scanner was mounted on ao9.
• It was not aligned with the monument marker at the bottom of ao.
• The azimuth for the scanner was not registered with the dish (az  0 was pointing se.
• the scanner was leveled using the tribrach and the electronic leveling. All measurements should be compensated for any level offsets.
• The scanner units were set to meters
• The scanner coordinate system is:
• x,y in plane of scanner after leveling
• y points in initial az=0 direction
• x 90 deg east of y (clockwise
• z = normal to xy plane.
  
• Targets (.pdf) were mounted around the rim wall  at (more info on locations)
• The table below has the target names and the measured locations in the p50 coordinate system (meters).
  
• we scanned each target with 1.6mm @ 10m resolution.  (scans 6-9)
• i used qt reader to display the targets and then tried to estimate the center of the targets (we should have made the targets larger:).

• The range to the targets was about 160 meters. This gave a sampling resolution of 1.6*160/10 = 25.6 mm. so the locations above are an approximation of the target locations (i didn't convolve at target mask with the images..).

• After scanning the leica .bin files were converted to .las format using the leica cyclone software.

•  All angles are in the p50 coordinate system (they've not yet been registered with the primary coord sys.
• the data as .las files are stored on aonet in /share/megs2_u1/phil/data/leica_p50/200311/ScanXX.las
  

• Note: i really need to get the metadatafiles for each scan to verify that i have the correct sensitivity,  and times.
