Intro:
s3046 used the sband transmitter to
transmit two tones separated by a fixed spacing. It then used the
430 Mhz xmiter with the coded long pulse program to look for any
enhancements in the plasma line (jun15, sep15)
- sband2tone, sband2toneswp tcl procedures in atm/gen
- on 24th started logging the freq steps to
/home/online/msgs/sband2tone.log
- sband power in /home/online/lro/pwrdata.log.xxxx
Notes on running the 2 xmiters together
- normal config, ch 7.5,dome 1.07 the sband will trip with
turnstile power fault when 430 gets to about 1MW. Seemed to run
ok at 950 kw.
- If sband xmiter not over the turret then get lots of antenna
reflected power in sband when 430 xmitting (even at 600
kw).
- Body current goes up as tones separate
- trying to step 0 .25, .5 mhz separation caused all hell to
break loose with the band sensors. especially the rf drive
values that are read back,. Looking at the spectrum analyzer, we
have lots of harmonics/intermods when step is .25 Mhz,.
- got the sband up to 660Kw at the end.
Setup:
- sband tx setup:
- vxWorks tclProcedure: sband2tone deltaFreqMhz
- will set synth 5,6, and 8 to external output, 14dbm
- synth 5 freq: 230 - deltaFreq/2
- synth 6 freq: 230 + deltaFreq/2
- (you may have to run addprocatm gen to
get the procedure loaded in tcl)
- filter:
- the sband exciter box:
- 5 mhz filter removed, 260 40 Mhz filter installed.
- cabling:
- synth 5,6 local output ports to spliter (used as combiner)
and then over the racks to 230Mhz input of sband exciter box
(bottom of rack).
- synth 8 local output port to sband exciter 20 Mhz input.
- Levels:
- each tone level was 4.4 dbm after the splitter (at end of
cable that goes into exciter box)
- 250 test tone output (front panel of exciter box).. about
-29 dbm each tone (the single tone value is normally around
-24 dbm).
- 430 setup:
- regular plasmaline setup (as well as ion line)

During the day we tried to run the sband xmter
with the hf heater.
- When the hf got to 30Kw/transmitter, the sband tx would shut
itself down (even when it was only in standby mode). Looks like
the 5.1 mhz was getting into the control/monitor circuitry of
the sband controller upstairs.
During the evening we ran the sband transmitter.
Setup:
- paul bernhardt's SEE receiver running at cristiano's house i
camuy
- optical equipment in photometer shack was used.
- the 430 tx was not used
- az=285. grza=1.06 degrees. sitting the entire time.
We used an SEE receiving system (paul bernhardt's located at
cristiano's house is camuy) as well as the optical equipment in
the photometer shack. The 430 transmitter was not used.'
