Intro:

Looking at zaplists and radars: 2009 to 2015

    Zaplists from 2009 through 23jun15 were plotted.
A histogram was made for each year showing the numbers of zaps in each period bin.

• I used a binwidth of .01 hz
• The periods were limited to 0 to 2000 hz.
  

Models of the radars were made to shows what frequencies their PRF'S (Pulse Repetition Frequencies) would create.
The radar periods were then over plotted on the zaplist data.

The plots show histograms of the zaplists  (by year)  with the radars over plotted (.ps) (.pdf):

• black : zaplist periods
  
• Blue: aerostat radar periodicity
  
• Red: FAA radar before it was switched to a carsr radar (2013)
  
• green: carsr radar periodicities
  
• Comments
• The punta borinquen radar (single pulse) was replaced by a carsr radar in 2013
• The periods from the old punta borinquen were not modeled.
  
• The Old FAA radar (red) was replaced by a carsr radar (green) in 2013
• the Aerostat radar (blue)  went off the air dec11 and came back on the air apr14

• each frame has 500 Hz of bandwidth
• This is before the carsr radar  was installed (and before the aerostat failed)
• The aerostat and FAA models line up with the zaplist frequencies

• punta borinquen (remy) switches to carsr radar starting apr13
• faa switches to carsr radar aug13
• nov13   faa starts blanking i ao direction (prior to this, no blanking).
  
• Page 4  2014 blowup in frequency
• the aerostat came back online apr14
• The carsr radar model needs a little tweaking to line up perfectly with the zaplist data.
• page 5: 2015 blowup in freq
• the punta salinas freq agile radar got upgraded from 18 dual channels to 100 dual channels apr2015
  
• The freq for mode A, B changed..

• CARSR: Common Air Route Surveillance Radar
• The carsr radar are currently blanking (about 4 degrees) when the point in the AO direction.
• While the radars were brought online during 2013, they were not always blanking in our direction.
• This probably caused stronger/more intermods than after the blanking (although the zaplists for 2014 look about the same as 2013).
