Primary Dish cables and targets
oct2019
Intro:
The primary reflector consists of 3' by 6.25' (or 3.25' by
6.25') perforated panels suspended on cables.
- The x,y,z coordinate system for the dish has:
- x (positive East)
- y (positive North)
- z (positive up)
- The center of curvature of the sphere defines the center of
the coordinate system.
- except: z0 has been translated by -RadiusOf curvature
so x0,y0,z0 is close to AO9 (at the center of the dish).
- The suspension cables:
- The main cables run north-south.
- They are spaced every 25 feet in x (east-west) (x+ is
eastward).
- The smaller cables
- run east- west
- are spaced every 3 (or 3.25) feet
- They are attached to the main cables at each 25 foot
crossing
- The 3 x 6.25 foot panels lay with the long direction in the
east-west direction.
- there are 4 panels between each main cable.
- The survey1,2 targets are on the northWest corner of each
panel.
- Tiedown cables are used to pull the main cable from a catenary
into a sphere.
- They are spaced about every 15 feet along a main cable,.
Main cable names:
The plot shows the main cable names (.ps)
(.pdf)
- Naming convention:
- XYZZ
- X: N(North),S(South)
- Y: E(East),W(west), or C(center)]
- ZZ: cable id
- The distance from center is a theoretical value using 0
for the center cable and spacing them every 25 feet.

TARGETS
The 2000-2003 surveys placed targets on the
northwest corner of each panel.
