HF data in usrp from jun16 run
jun16
Looking at the results:
10 second spectral
integrations
Intro:
there was a 1 week hf run starting on 02jun16
(more
info). Data was taken with the echotek and the usrp systems.
This page shows how the usrp data looked. It discusses some of the
ways to process the hf data (with enhanced plasma line) that is
not normally with non heater plasma line data.
10 second spectral
integrations
What is seen:
- spreading of enhanced plasma line, ion line in freq and height
for:
- .1 sec hf on during 10 sec integration
- 10 sec hf on during 10 sec integration
- The effect of median filtering on the bandpass, enhanced
lines..
The setup:
- No rfi removal was done when decoding (i was afraid it might
affect the enhanced plasma line)
- Hf freq was 5.1 MHz, polarization: rcp
- 430 transmitter: clp, 2 usec baud, 440 usec rf pulse length,
ipp=10ms.
- heights sampled at 1 usec
- 16384 length ffts.. 1.5 kHz resolution.
- Two data sets:
- set1: 02jun16 20:17:56 T2681 brett isham
- .1 sec hf on during 10 sec average
- average 20:17:56 to 20:18:06
- heater on 20:18:00 to 20:18:00.1 heater
rf on for .1 sec
- set2: 02jun16 20:32:06 T681 brett isham
- hf on for entire 10 second integration.
- average 20:32:06 to 20:32:16
- heater on 20:32:00 to 23:32:30
.1 second hf on, 10 second integration:
- the heater came on for .1 seconds, 4 seconds after the start
of the integration (it had been off for 59.9secs).
- A 71length median filter (100kHz) was used to remove a
baseline on each spectra of the image.
- image range vs freq.

- high sensitivity, strong signals clipped
- image range vs freq.
image full scale -2 to 100 sigmas (.gif)
- lower sensitivity, showing ion line, enhanced plasma line
location. you can also see the rfi around 420 MHz.
- line plots of
enhanced plasma line (.ps) (.pdf)
- Page 1: spectra of 230.90 km (max of upshifted
enhanced plasma line).
- The black lines are the spectra with no median filtering
- the green lines has a 71 length median filtered band pass
removed from each spectra.
- top:25 MHz spectra. Normalized to median value for all
heights. so scale is close to Tsys.
- 2nd Frame: Blowup of ion line
- dashed red line is 430 MHz
- 3rd frame: Blowup of upshifted enhanced plasma line
- red line is 430 + hfFreq (5.1 MHz)

230.90 km
- top: ion line
- middle: upshifted enhanced plasma line
- looks like two separate peaks. separated by about 70
kHz.
- bottom: downshifted enhanced plasma line

- Top: over plot spectra with offsets for display
- the max freq occurs at 231.42 km
- Bottom: over plot spectra with no offsets.
- shows relative strength of various heights.

each spectra.
10 second hf on, 10 second integration
- The heater was on for 6 seconds prior to the start of the 10
second integration. It remained on for the 10 seconds..
